BCM Bitwarden Client Setup Guide
Connecting to the BCM Self-Hosted Vaultwarden Server
Purpose: This guide provides step-by-step instructions for BCM staff to configure the Bitwarden desktop application and browser extension to connect to the self-hosted Vaultwarden server.
Self-Hosted Server URL
Before you begin, you will need the BCM server URL:
https://vault.birminghamcitymission.org.uk
Windows Desktop Application
- Download and install Bitwarden from https://bitwarden.com/download/
- Open the Bitwarden application
- On the login screen, click the Region dropdown (shows "bitwarden.com" or "bitwarden.eu" by default)
- Select Self-hosted
- In the Server URL field, enter:
https://vault.birminghamcitymission.org.uk - Click Save
- Log in with your BCM Bitwarden credentials
Browser Extension (Chrome/Edge)
- Install the Bitwarden extension from the Chrome Web Store or Edge Add-ons
- Click the Bitwarden extension icon in your browser toolbar
- On the login screen, click the Region dropdown
- Select Self-hosted
- In the Server URL field, enter:
https://vault.birminghamcitymission.org.uk - Click Save
- Log in with your BCM Bitwarden credentials
Mobile App (iOS/Android)
- Download Bitwarden from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android)
- Open the app and tap Log in
- Tap the Region selector (shows "bitwarden.com" by default)
- Select Self-hosted
- In the Server URL field, enter:
https://vault.birminghamcitymission.org.uk - Tap Save
- Log in with your BCM Bitwarden credentials
Troubleshooting
Connection Error: Ensure you are connected to the internet and the server URL is entered correctly with no trailing slash.
Certificate Warning: If you see a certificate warning, contact IT support as this may indicate a configuration issue.
Forgotten Password: Contact IT support to reset your Bitwarden account password.
